As Basic Soul Unit, Stuart had already built up a catalogue of music through releases on respected labels like Versatile, Mule Musiq, Mathematics, Dolly and more. Having built a solid reputation in the international underground, he felt it was time to start his own venture. Thus he tapped Jason (who also produces under J-UL) to join him. Although key labels in the history of the city included well known and respected ones like DNH and Strobe, Toronto has always had a lack of infrastructure to support independent artists in the scene. Outside of being an outlet for their own releases, the two envisioned Lab.our as a platform to spread the word about Toronto's burgeoning underground talent. Besides Basic Soul Unit thus far, releases have come from Maxwell Church, J-UL, Xavier G, The Hermans, Aberdeen and close friend from the windy city Chicago Skyway. Looking to the future Lab.our continues to showcase Toronto talent with a planned compilation in 2018 of local artists both label of new and familiar faces.
