Introduction to Japanese Rope Bondage
Sunday, January 12, 2020 at 3 PM – 5 PM

Come learn about the beautiful, connective art of kinbaku, or as it more commonly known in the West, shibari. We will go over a brief history, discuss consent, safety concerns, self-tying and bottoming, as well as learn a few fundamental ties. Participation is appreciated and encouraged! Please feel free to bring a consenting bottom to tie, but these ties can absolutely be practiced on yourself! It is recommended that you bring 1-2 lengths of 26-30ft 4-6mm rope. Rope will be provided for those that do not have their own. This is a class and we will maintain an educational demeanor. No play allowed.

This is a 2 hour long workshop. Please be conscientious of the other people taking the class and arrive on time.

All you need to do to register is pay the corresponding fee and your name will be added to our class list! There is no registration link. I am using Venmo in order to save us both extra fees. If you would like to arrange other payment options, feel free to send me a message.

Please understand that there are are only a certain number of spots available for this class due to space constraints. If you would like to ensure that you get a space, register early! EARLY REGISTRATION FEE IS $25 PER PERSON OR $40 PER COUPLE. STARTING 1/6 THE FEE INCREASES TO $35 PER PERSON AND $50 PER COUPLE.

Educator Bio:

HelloKatie (they/them pronouns) is a northern Virginia based educator, performer, and alternative model. They have worked for, taught, performed, and presented for several different East Coast organizations including Dark Odyssey, Black Rose, CUFF, and Camp Contact. As a queer, non-binary, genderfluid, trans*, switch, HelloKatie focuses on ensuring multiple perspectives are represented in their work and material. Being a heavy sadomasochistic player with a taste for edge play, laughter, and the taboo, they like bringing frowned upon discussions to light and proving that stereotypes aren’t all that typical. Shamelessly addicted to all things movement, flow arts, fire, rope, pain, HelloKitty, Disney, and Harry Potter related. Nerd for life, 10 points to Ravenclaw, and 5 points to the other houses!

Rope Bio:

HelloKatie is rope obsessed! They top, bottom, and self-suspend/tie as well as teach and perform rope. They have been learning and exploring rope since their first day in the kink scene back in the early spring of 2016. They have been active in the DC/Baltimore rope scene including helping build Kinbaku Odyssey and being a founding member of the rope lab held there, though it has been some time since they’ve been able to regularly attend. On top of being mentored by the people of DC Rope and RiggerOdys (an official student of Naka Akira), HelloKatie has attended various classes and intensives throughout the years as both a top and a bottom. Some of the people they have learned under include: Murasaki Haruan/Iroha Shizuki, Midori, FredRx, M0co, and Zamil. They have been performing rope for almost 3 years, and teaching rope for about a year, though they have been teaching various BDSM classes for over 2 years.
