Meditation is often misunderstood. “I just can’t stop thinking” is a common grievance among beginners. But is arresting one’s thoughts really possible? In yogic philosophy, meditation (dhyana) is not something that can be practiced directly, but a state that arises after many hours of practicing preliminary exercises. The most well known of these practices, asana (physical postures), is what is known as “yoga” to most westerners. Mindfulness meditation, another modern practice, is equivalent to dhyana (concentration) according to yogic philosophy. When we hold our attention on the breath, or scan the body with our mind’s eye, the mind will calm down over time. This class will explore various elements of these practices, each designed to strengthen and calm the mind. Doors will open at 7:20 and close at 7:40. If you are late you will not be allowed entry. You are welcome to bring a snack to share if you wish. This class is pay-what-you-can, with $15 as the suggested offering.

About Adam: Adam started Just Naked with the idea that city-dwellers might be open to experiencing nudity within the confines of their rat-infested metropoles. While he believes convening with nature is still the best way to do it, he understands that some people just can’t be convinced to subject their flesh to destructive UV rays and mosquitoes. He studied jazz music before moving to NYC to model in 2013. Teaching yoga and doing massage led him to understand how profoundly disconnected many people were from their bodies. He started teaching naked yoga in 2016, and considers Just Naked as an expansion of that endeavor. His goal is to offer folks an opportunity to shed their insecurities, piece by piece, as they do their clothes at Just Naked events.
